WTF is this site? Why did I build it?

Computer technologies evolve so quickly that I often find myself asking 'What The Fuck is this $#@%?'.

I expect a lot of other enthusiasts have found themselves thinking the same thing. It's a question which implies a lot:

• I am overwhelmed by this new thing
• I don't understand what this is
• I can't work out how to approach understanding this
• I am so amazed by this that I'm questioning what I thought was true
• I am actually disgusted by what I'm seeing

Generally I like to think whatever I'm trying to work with was probably made by a lot of smart people - so I optimistically try to avoid being disgusted by things new to me!

Rather than getting frustrated and stuck at WTF, I usually try to break down what the tech is supposed to do. Unfortunately this can often be a bit of a rabbit hole - and 5 months later I realise I was wrong anyway!

I've tried to capture at least some of how I learn/learnt to work with new things on this site, and explain how/why I use them.

This site is some sort of blog/wiki/product catalog recording new technologies I've worked with, why and how.
